Car Free Vancouver says no to dupobs on the “bongo-rhythmic” Main stage. No to dupobs on the Commercial “crap-hop” stage. And no to dupobs on the “folk-ass” West End stage. Has Stephen Harper sucked out their brains? Yes! Car Free Vancouver declares itself the “we-don’t-serve-what-you-can’t-pronounce” White Spot of car-free festivals. They attempt the impossible; to hold back the ever-retreating horizon of the signified. They ignore the necessary connection between squareness and cultural death; mediocrity and war; Wilco and the destruction of rainforests. They are wrong. dupobs is right. History will tell the story. dupobs WILL be there on June 14. Hleauxs! to you in our. in the. in the! in the. and the. pleur-yuh. &c.

Live on the Birthday of Art

On January 17, DUPOBS collaborated with Synaptic Sandwich to celebrate the birthday of art during CITR Radioâ€™s 24 Hours of Radio Art. The three-hour performance â€“ podcast on CITR â€“ begins with twenty minutes or so of Tokyo commuter-train ambience, and a sci-fi monologue of dubious quality. Gradually, the ambient soundtrack is overlaid with synthetic noise, somewhat reminiscent of the highway scene from Andrei Tarkovkyâ€™s Solaris. Then DUPOBS and Synaptic Sandwich pull out all the stops for perhaps an hour of atmospheric, inspired chaos â€“ somewhere between Violent Onsen Geisha, Plunderphonics, and the weirder moments of Skinny Puppy. The final hour or so is perhaps less inspired, but also has its moments. Hereâ€™s what part of the event looked like:

24 Hours of Radio Art at CITR

24 Hours of Radio Art is CITR Radio’s gift to art on January 17 — the birthday of art as first proposed by Fluxus’ Robert Filliou. The event embraces surrealism and anarchy “as a way of rejecting the fascism of the square world; the world which refuses to break free of conventional wisdom and the inevitable war it falls into again and again.” DUPOBS is proud to be a part of the festivities, and will be collaborating with Synaptic Sandwich on a playfully bizarre experiment between the hours of 21:00 and 23:00 PST on the 17th. (That’s 04:00-06:00 GMT on the 18th.) Regardless of self-promotion, DUPOBS highly recommends tuning in and listening to 24 Hours of Radio Art at CITR’s live stream, at any point on Saturday, January 17, from 00:00 to 24:00 PST. (In GMT, that’s 07:00 on the 17th to 07:00 on the 18th).

Les Dupobs are proud to announce the online release of their second LP, Le Sex L’ove.

The online release will roll out over several weeks. Each week we will make a new track available for free, unencumbered download at our page on Last.fm. Charred Inflatable Ball Finally Explode In Mouth est un chanson trÃ¨s mysterieux, et une departure des autres travails du dupobs. It starts with a churning stomach and ends with an epileptic rhythm machine that steals the show from the participants. Awkward and lame patriotic gesture is inverted and trampled by its own self-mechanizing processes. We are showing the ugly excess of modern technics and warfare. We give you the start gate stumble of the premiere chanson des Dupobs.

dupobs will be playing a rare show at Railway Club in Vancouver (579 Dunsmuir, @Seymour) on Sept 18 as part of CiTR’s Shindig festivalos. Come see. We will have a soccer themed show. It will kick things, and you might be sick in your hat.
